China accounts for over half of the world's humanoid robot models, MIIT says

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology put hard numbers behind the country's humanoid lead on July 20, 2026. Qazinform, citing Xinhua, and Global Times both report the same MIIT readout: China has developed more than 400 complete humanoid robot products, accounting for over half of the global total. Chinese-made quadrupeds also took nearly 70% of worldwide sales in the first half of 2026.

Global Times nested the humanoid and quadruped figures in a broader tech briefing:

The timing sat next to the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, where humanoids were on the show floor and Kazakhstan's president attended the opening, per Qazinform's earlier WAIC coverage.
